I\u2019ll pop back another time, perhaps? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love the name of this village\u2026 Friday Bridge! I wonder how it got that name? A quick look online yields <a href=\"http:\/\/epns.nottingham.ac.uk\/browse\/The+Isle+of+Ely\/Elm\/53287356b47fc40c4f00015d-Friday+Bridge\">this<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Friday Bridge is <em>Fridayesbrugg<\/em> &#8216;1298<em>Ass<\/em> , <em>Frydaybrigge<\/em> 1340 Imb.<em>fridai<\/em> is the name of a fishery of the monks of Ely in 1086 (InqEl), later <em>Frideiwere<\/em> (1251<em>ElyCouch<\/em> ). There was also a <em>Fryday<\/em> <em>lake<\/em> 1570 Imb in Elm. In Haddenham also we have <em>Frydaye<\/em> <em>weyr<\/em> 1549<em>Ct<\/em> , <em>Frydayeware<\/em>1608<em>AddCh<\/em> , and near Whittlesey we have <em>Fridaylake<\/em> , <em>Fridaylone<\/em> 1244, 1286 Rams. Two guys were nearby, so I stopped briefly and chatted with them. Turns out this might be the future \u2018gate guard\u2019 for the putative Bramley Line heritage railway, a local project aiming to reopen an old disused line \u2018twixt March and Wisbech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I told the chaps, Clive and Dave, I\/we might like to pitch in, and get involved. They gave me several leaflets. It\u2019d be good to have a heritage line on our doorstep.
