Alas, another of the many churches not open to the public. I\u2019ll pop back another time, perhaps? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love the name of this village\u2026 Friday Bridge! I wonder how it got that name? A quick look online yields this<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday Bridge is Fridayesbrugg<\/em> ‘1298Ass<\/em> , Frydaybrigge<\/em> 1340 Imb.fridai<\/em> is the name of a fishery of the monks of Ely in 1086 (InqEl), later Frideiwere<\/em> (1251ElyCouch<\/em> ). There was also a Fryday<\/em> lake<\/em> 1570 Imb in Elm. In Haddenham also we have Frydaye<\/em> weyr<\/em> 1549Ct<\/em> , Frydayeware<\/em>1608AddCh<\/em> , and near Whittlesey we have Fridaylake<\/em> , Fridaylone<\/em> 1244, 1286 Rams. These should probably be associated with fishing by the monks for Friday fare and not be associated with other Fridaynames discussed in PN Sr 410\u201311.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Talking of names, my fascination with churches has me wondering why, after the split wi\u2019 Rome, all those years ago, are so many churches still styled \u2018St [insert patron Saint here]\u2019?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bramley Line gate-guard?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Whilst delivering for Amazon\/Morrisons, I saw this knackered old diesel loco\u2019. Two guys were nearby, so I stopped briefly and chatted with them. Turns out this might be the future \u2018gate guard\u2019 for the putative Bramley Line heritage railway, a local project aiming to reopen an old disused line \u2018twixt March and Wisbech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I told the chaps, Clive and Dave, I\/we might like to pitch in, and get involved. They gave me several leaflets. It\u2019d be good to have a heritage line on our doorstep.
