Now I feel less drawn to it. It\u2019s rather unctuously smooth! So this painting is a new favourite. But with certain artists I can make exceptions. I don\u2019t go a bundle on many of Beckmann\u2019s landscapes or still lives &#8211; though there are some I like &#8211; but occasionally Max\u2019s people do it for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6404-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11025\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6404-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6404-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6404-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6404.jpg 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bathing Scene, 1934.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual, I\u2019m keen to see what I might learn or absorb from a study of another artists\u2019s style. I\u2019d like do a series of figurative paintings &#8211; not sure what subject on as yet (jazz musicians, military subjects?) &#8211; with a very deliberate Beckmann influence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poss\u2019 combining that with a bit of Stanley Spencer\u2019s? To my mind and eye they share an approach to the picture space: their paintings are often like 3-D shallow relief friezes.
