It\u2019s really frustrating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photo at the top of this post, above, is the best of the many wherein the camera is focussed on the screen, not the view beyond. I keep\/include this example, crap as it may be, because it does at least go part of the way towards capturing the colours in the sky, which were simply sublime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-11038\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6436.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">One of the few that\u2019s even simply in focus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday I picked Teresa up, mid-shift, as a drop I made was right next door to where she works, and the timing\u2019s were perfect: dropped off the packages, drove to her workplace &#8211; literally seconds, as it was right next door &#8211; and there she is, walking out of work chatting with a co-worker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this point onwards, and for about the next hour or more, there was an absolutely sublime sunset. One unusual feature of which was a visual phenomenon I\u2019ve rarely if ever seen before, and desperately wanted to capture. A perfectly vertical \u2018column of light\u2019. But, alas, due to the crapness of the iPhones\u2019 cam\u2019, I was unable to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-11039\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6446.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">At last, a reasonable \u2018in car\u2019 shot!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most annoying things about this iPhones\u2019 camera is that 99% of the time it\u2019ll focus on the car windscreen, not the landscape beyond. This is so infuriating! Above and below are two rare instances where this <em>didn\u2019t<\/em> occur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-11040\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6447.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zoomed in a bit. Poss\u2019 even better? <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of maybe 30-40 attempted shots, the few here are the best. And, frankly, they fail miserably at capturing the awesome majesty of this incredible sunset. I really <em>must<\/em> get a better camera!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most annoying part was the cam\u2019s complete failure to capture the \u2018column of light\u2019 effect that was the most singular aspect of this particular evening\u2019s display. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-11041\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_6453.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Arrowhead over Oakington, all that remains\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Flying V\u2019, or arrowhead of cloud, was all that remained of the spectacular display, by the time I\u2019d dropped my last delivery. This was also the first moment on the route that had found me stationary and with a view of the sky not totally blocked by buildings. So I took the above shot. But by then the really spectacular display was over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing was, that the only times I had an unimpeded view of the skies were between drops, whilst driving.
