Slated to appear fifth on the bill, he wound up opening the festival, due to other performers arriving late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve read that the whole show started three hours late. And I\u2019ve also read, in several quotes from from Richie himself (now deceased), that he played a massively long set &#8211; he says three hours!? &#8211; due to the no-show of the aforementioned acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He alludes to the fact that the movie only features him performing two songs &#8211; which research suggests were Handsome Johnny and Freedom\/Motherless Child &#8211; whilst he actually played many more. Just as it did for some other acts, notably Santana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recall my dad having misty-eyed reveries in respect of Havens in particular, back when I was a kid living at home, and I first saw the Woodstock movie. It had a pretty profound influence on me, back then. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years I\u2019ve occasionally dipped into Havens\u2019 bag. But only ever very lightly and superficially. I feel the time has come to check him out a bit more thoroughly. Whether I actually will or not, remains to be seen. But the interest\/desire is there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ironically it was kickstarted by the very recent discovery of Kathy Smith, and esp\u2019 her second album, artfully titled <em>2<\/em>, which was released on Havens\u2019 own small independent record label, Stormy Forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"656\" height=\"656\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_7438-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11897\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_7438-1.jpg 656w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_7438-1-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_7438-1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/img_7438-1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 656px) 100vw, 656px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Havens had his own record label.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the label appears to still exist.
