Looking rather dour, on a dull grey day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We pass St Peter\u2019s, in March, all the time. But we\u2019ve never stopped to look inside. Until today. It\u2019s not as prettily interesting as St Wendreda\u2019s, which is down the road a piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The font is like the church, plain and heavy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

When we went in an old fella was playing an electric organ – not the \u2018real\u2018\/old organ (that was located elsewhere – which was fed through big speakers mounted high on the wall. It wasn\u2019t a bad simulacrum of the real thing. Had I not seen that it wasn\u2019t the real deal, I might not have twigged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not the most exciting \u2018lights\u2019.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s funny, three of he churches I\u2019ve visited recently have had folk in them being musical. Which is great, I think. Two organists and a small choir. good that the buildings are being used. And the organ music really helps with the atmos\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a fair bit of stained glass. But it all looks fairly modern, ie 19th C. or newer. And isn\u2019t particularly striking. Nonetheless, I\u2019ve gone round snapping most of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several windows dedicated to the passing of folk one guesses were fairly well to do local parishioners. And most of the dates are late 1800s or more frequently early 1900s. Which, at an edumacated guess, puts most of this glasswork in an early twentieth century frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These windows are all well executed, if a little dull. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a big ol\u2019 building. But rather heavy set and lumpen. Poss akin in that respect to much parochial town buildings ov Victorian vintage, which I\u2019m guessing this is?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way out I spotted the four small lights pictured above. These little windows seem to be dedicated to Matt, Mark, Luke n\u2019 Ron\u2026 we, I mean John. Or the \u2018Four Evangelists\u2019, as they\u2019re sometimes known. Whose collected writings are sometimes referred to shorthand as The Gospels!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
