Rather annoyingly, during my shift today the leaflet in the above CD fell out of the car. I\u2019ve only had the CD a day or two, and now it looks like it\u2019s years old. Damn!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this one too\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

One song that jumped out at me today was \u2018Early Riser\u2019, a live track included as an extra on the Omnivore reissue of their debut (above). It appeals to me as antidote to another of their tracks, \u2018In The Night\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas \u2018In The Night\u2019 celebrates the wee small hours, \u2018Early Riser\u2019 finds our handsome hirsute hero turning in nice and early! I do that, and I love it. I haven\u2019t mastered the other part, the part that gives the song its title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in the evening, afore bed, we watched Pursuit to Algiers, with Basil Shinbone and Nigel \u2018the Bruce\u2019. Ah, what formulaic fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do love the combo of Basil and Nigel. Not very Conan Doyle, admittedly. Esp\u2019 Bruce\u2019s bumbling buffoonery! But I grew up watching these, and they\u2019ve carved a little niche in my heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crimes at sea? It\u2019s not all black and white.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Who really cares about the silly plots? It\u2019s all about the heroic pair, and their chemistry. Rathbone\u2019s Holmes is always clipped, often earnest, and frequently in a hurry. Bruce\u2019s Doc\u2019 is slower paced, hankers after food n\u2019 drink, a bit of sport, and comely dames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will Holmes solve the case, whilst simultaneously sending up Watson, and still charm the pants off everyone, inc. the Doc\u2019? Of course. He always does. It\u2019s not the destination, be it Algiers or elsewhere. It\u2019s the trip.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
