My father had Your Mama Don\u2019t Dance<\/em> on vinyl, when I was a kid. What a terrific album! The above photo is from the same sessions that produced the cover for the aforementioned Mama<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featured side-man action, \u201863.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The first recordings I\u2019ve found Kynard playing on are three Pacific jazz releases. He\u2019s a featured side man on two, and as leader on one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After these Pacific Jazz recordings came a string of releases on the Prestige label, which find Kynard now well established as a leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe I have a CD that combines Soul Brotherhood<\/em> with Reelin\u2019 With The Feelin\u2019<\/em>? And a few others in mp3 only format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve now got several other albums by Kynard, in various formats. I thought it\u2019d be nice to gather together what I could about the man and his music in a single post. Including a complete(-ish?) pictorial discography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The above linked bio\u2019 doesn\u2019t say exactly how he passed, only that \u2018The good Lord called Charles E. Kynard home July 8, 1979 as he sat at the organ that day playing the music he loved so much.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least he went out swingin\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It seems that 1973\u2019s Your Mama<\/em> was his last official solo LP. He appears on just one cut – opener, \u2018Smiling Faces Sometimes\u2019 – on another Mainstream release, 1974\u2019s Booty<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
