It grates mightily. It\u2019s such a mish-mash. Overloaded with ideas that are supposed to be clever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"980\" height=\"654\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9145-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13401\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9145-1.jpg 980w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9145-1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9145-1-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Like nails on a blackboard\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And unlike Baker-era <em>Who<\/em>, which uses sci-fi\/fantasy much more simply, as a vehicle for fun storytelling, and tends to have an underlying appeal &#8211; despite its total kookiness &#8211; to the rational mind, CGI-era <em>Who<\/em> is overloaded with appeals to angels, the mystical, ghosts, sceances, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9147-1-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13402\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9147-1-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9147-1-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9147-1-768x511.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9147-1.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Za-<em>Who<\/em>-ssi, or the appliance of seance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Where \u201870s <em>Who<\/em> harnessed imagination to progressive rational ideals, current <em>Who<\/em> is regressive, appealing to \u2018comforting\u2019 myths, ironically enabled by cutting-edge tech. Ironically the older <em>Who<\/em>, more dependent on viewer imagination, and simpler old-school props, is more visionary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"417\" height=\"239\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9146-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13403\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9146-1.jpg 417w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/img_9146-1-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Groan\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t know when the trend for manic Drs set in. But I hate it. Christopher Ecclestone partakes of this annoying lineage. And Billie Piper as his sidekick sums up the shallow vanity of our times.
