The very definition of the Goldilock\u2019s zone: never too little nor to much. But I love the whole package. There\u2019s a distinct aesthetic at work. And a fabulous one, at that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"666\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482-1024x666.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16132\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482-1024x666.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482-300x195.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482-768x499.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482-1536x998.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2482.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Musically we get a beautiful melange of numerous strands in jazz, as it was evolving at this point in time: remnants of hard-bop, blues, and soul jazz, rub shoulders and more, and get downright freaky with modal, a d even free jazz elements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there\u2019s an almost \u2018chamber orchestra\u2019 aesthetic, with groups often that little bit bigger than might\u2019ve been the norm. Maybe with extra horns, or percussion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And often &#8211; in a much funkier take on say organ jazz for example &#8211; having the almost rock group guitar, keys and bass, as a core trio, in the rhythm section, where in the \u201860s, organists might do the bass stuff on pedals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16133\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/img_2478.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There remains a great deal more to explore and enjoy. I have a ton of this label\/era on mp3. But I prefer to have the CDs. I might\u2019ve preferred vinyl, if money and space were no object. But they both are! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I thank the Japanese cats who\u2019ve had the good taste and plain human decency to bring these dusty treasures out on CD, and release them at affordable prices.
