He\u2019s saying he\u2019d rather not go to a dance. But I like it as an earthier more testicular ejaculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And why that title under \u2018health &amp; wellbeing\u2019? Because I had a boozy blip, yestereve. Several times of late I\u2019ve had a single beer, or a small glass o\u2019 vino. All the while trying to maintain control. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last night I had a bottle of Shipyard IPA, a tipple I really love. I feel compelled to confess that the alcoholic version is <em>sooo<\/em> much nicer than the sans alcohol one. On its own that\u2019d\u2019ve been fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I followed it up with a little 20cl bottle of neat rum. And that was, I believe, a mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"604\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4216-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4216-1.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4216-1-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is, or was, a part of me that\u2019d like to be able to be a Tom Waits or Charles Bukowski type, all fags n\u2019 booze. But I\u2019m more like Woody Allen in <em>Play It Again, Sam<\/em>. And the truth is that those vices are &#8211; as everyone ought to know &#8211; pretty shitty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019ll do a Kerouac on you, and speed you towards a fat, grumpy oblivion. The \u2018bad liver and broken heart\u2019 that once sounded tragically romantic is now purely tragic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s only one saving grace, as far as last night\u2019s mini-debauch goes. And that\u2019s that I didn\u2019t go further, and compound my sins with even worse behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A very large part of why I\u2019ve been on the wagon has been the further consequences of boozing. Fortunately the only such issues today are a bit of bloating and a slight headache.
