As does Teresa. She watches his stuff daily! Ought I be worried? She\u2019s cooking in the kitchen now (smells delicious), and Rick\u2019s on in the background. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the things I love about him, is his love of culture. He often talks about art, music poetry, and suchlike. And just a moment ago, he slipped in a short poetic extract &#8211; \u2018A sweet disorder in the dress \/ kindles in clothes a wantonness\u2019 &#8211; I just <em>had<\/em> to immediately look it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turns out it\u2019s an old\u2019un:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">A sweet disorder in the dress<br \/>Kindles in clothes a wantonness;<br \/>A lawn about the shoulders thrown<br \/>Into a fine distraction;<br \/>An erring lace, which here and there<br \/>Enthrals the crimson stomacher;<br \/>A cuff neglectful, and thereby<br \/>Ribands to flow confusedly;<br \/>A winning wave, deserving note,<br \/>In the tempestuous petticoat;<br \/>A careless shoe-string, in whose tie<br \/>I see a wild civility:<br \/>Do more bewitch me, than when art<br \/>Is too precise in every part.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>By a certain Mr Robert Herrick. A new name to me. Or so I thought. But everyone know the phrase \u2018Gather ye rosebuds\u2019, surely?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"525\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aoGLra7hCIw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Having just learned who Herrick is, or was. I\u2019m beginning to like him a lot! His poem, The Vine, essentially a near psychedelic dream about his willy, is fabulous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the ending of <em>To His Muse<\/em> are an entire compendium of a philosophy of life in just two lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\">That man's unwise will search for ill,<br \/>And may prevent it, sitting still.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I do love Rick Stein.
