I\u2019ve been enjoying BBC R4\u2019s In Our Time<\/em> podcasts, whilst convalescing. The latest one I listened to addresses the \u2018War of 1812<\/a>.\u2019 Not Napoleon\u2019s disastrous Franco-Russian one, but \u2018the other one\u2019; Britain vs The USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This post isn\u2019t about what I think about that podcast. It\u2019s just an image gallery on the subject. Something to whet the appetite for poss\u2019 further exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And of course there was a very large naval aspect to this conflict\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Britain and America it was, it would seem, a largely very pointless coda – changing very little – to the AWI. Perhaps just sealing some kind closure, re America\u2019s cutting of the umbilical cord with Europe, in general, and Britain in particular? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas, for the indigenous peoples of the continent, it was an unmitigated disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
