It\u2019s a gorgeous sunny evening. British Summer Time is about to end. I was feeling kind of empty, brittle, and, frankly, shitty. I\u2019ve pulled up, parked facing the sunset. And I\u2019m listening to Arthur Verocai\u2019s sublime 1972 recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I find it astonishing that albums like this, and Shuggie Otis\u2019 Inspiration Infornation<\/em>, have taken so many years to find their audience. But I\u2019m glad they have<\/em> resurfaced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just read a nice piece from 2022, in the Guardian online, interviewing Verocai about his late-blooming music career. Read it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Track seven, Na Boca Do Sol, just finished. I don\u2019t know Portuguese, despite a lifetime listening to Brazilian music. So I translated the lyrics. And – no surprise, frankly – they\u2019re beautifully poetic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now it\u2019s Velho Parente. Every single track is brilliant. What an album! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
