I\u2019ve started out making my 1st plane. It\u2019s designed to cut on a very shallow plane, of just 35\u00b0. But the angle it\u2019ll cut will be a 45\u00b0 bevel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a deal more to be done on it. And it may not even work. It\u2019s my first try at such a thing! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above: checking the table saw for square. Pretty good. I butchered an old chisel, to get the cutting iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having cut the wood, I glued it all together. It\u2019s a kind of \u2018jazz\u2019 design, inasmuch as it\u2019s improvised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane is basically dimensioned, the iron roughly shaped, and the (?) shaped. I painted some Rustin\u2019s pre-stain on it. Let that dry, a d then put a layer of linseed oil on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s where she\u2019s at for now\u2026 The iron doesn\u2019t come all the way through, to the sole. But that\u2019s intentional. I need to cut a triangle in the base, the iron will protrude through, into that right angle, thereby cutting the bevel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
