But it builds nicely. A lost art, perhaps?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4017.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28808\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4017.jpg 480w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4017-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cheryl, Ash\u2019s sister.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sam Raimi already has some chops &#8211; this is his directorial debut! &#8211; visually speaking, with only <em>Into The Woods<\/em> as warm up. Tricks like the wobbly low-to-the-ground camera , scooting over the rather squalid terrain\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"743\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4013.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28806\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4013.jpg 743w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4013-300x242.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cheryl\u2019s not well\u2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruce Campbell, and co. are great. Cheryl, his kid sister, is the first victim. In a highly controversial scene she is violated, by the evil spirits of the woods! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From hereon in the pace picks up. And very soon, with Shelley &#8211; Scotty\u2019s gal &#8211; taken, chaotic carnage ensues\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"804\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4015-1024x804.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28805\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4015-1024x804.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4015-300x236.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4015-768x603.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4015.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bruce Campbell is great, as Ash.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ash and Scotty are the last; all three gals get possessed first. But not long after Scotty\u2019s failed solo escape bid, it\u2019s just Ash\u2026 As Scotty fades, and the gore revs up, the movie switches into a more overtly absurd and even morbidly comic mode\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s alternately jaw-droppingly amazing, and utterly preposterous. Scary, then silly. But there are some terrific passages. A favourite for me is the several minutes of Ash\u2019s apparent descent into madness. The camera angles and lighting are, at times, terrific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"780\" height=\"438\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4018.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-28814\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4018.jpg 780w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4018-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/img_4018-768x431.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Insane lo-fi gore galore!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And then there\u2019s the whole epic lo-fi gore meltdown, which is extraordinary. Porridge? Plasticine? God knows\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bonkers, and epic\u2026 and the very end?
