The ISS boffins bring it back to life, only to wish they hadn\u2019t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Life<\/em> is very clearly and obviously heavily indebted to the Aliens series. But it doesn\u2019t have the same high drama of the \u2018original\u2019. Nor do the characters have the charisma of the older films\u2019 cast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But that said, there\u2019s enough that\u2019s original here, and it\u2019s all somewhat more \u2018realistic\u2019 &#8211; the super-evil-kelp-demon-alien aside &#8211; in terms of the basics of life aboard the ISS (as opposed to the whole <em>Alien<\/em> Nostromo trip), and how things might go wrong, making it fairly watchable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My wife is the one that usually suggests we try a sci-fi movie, and so it was on this occasion. I\u2019m the sci-fi sceptic, who finds the whole genre big on promise but small on delivery. With a few exceptions. <em>Life<\/em> is okay, neither great, nor awful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with all the <em>Aliens<\/em> movies, and many a horror film (or classic western, for that matter), this is essentially a siege, with malevolent evil vs plucky humanity.
