Having recently read Michael Palin\u2019s excellent Erebus<\/em>, I thought I\u2019d revisit the Top Gear Polar Special<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching the lovable trio of – Jezza, James and Richard – flippant but funny morons, gradually realising how hardcore their undertaking, or rather their environment, is, is very entertaining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it makes excellent TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arctic is, as you expect, breathtaking, sublime, awe-inspiring. It\u2019s great to be able to watch such things from the comfort of the sofa in your warm home. And as oafish as the Top Gear trio are, they\u2019re also brave (foolhardy!?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hammond goes via dog-sled, with a lady musher (whose name escapes me), whilst Jeremy and Cap\u2019n Slow go in a modified Toyota four-wheel drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They encounter Polar Bears, a plane-wreck, and play \u2018eye-spy\u2019 (under limited conditions!), get exhausted, scared, and traverse some frighteningly beautiful landscapes. Great TV!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
