But I guess it\u2019s all good, in a way? As with repetition comes better facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m posting this in its proper timeline sequence, but retrospectively. And as a result I\u2019m a bit sketchy on detail. But I think at this point I had the engine back to life, running. My intuition told me that it was probably the trigger wheel. which can be seen behind the harmonic damper in the above image. Just two of the teeth are visible in this shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In removing all of this stuff initially &#8211; trigger wheel, damper\/pulleys, and central crankshaft wheel &#8211; I\u2019d needed to use mucho persuasion! This lead to the trigger wheel getting somewhat deformed, by the time I\u2019d banged\/prised it orff\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I used numerous hammers, mainly large heavy soft-headed types, and some vice compression action, to flatten the bugger! And then I re-installed it, making sure it was properly aligned: concave face forward, convex rearward, locator pin in hole, and engine TDC, resulting in the top tooth (of just four!) being just past 12 o\u2019clock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5872\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/img_7633-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Checking timing alignment hasn\u2019t shifted out of whack. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the trigger wheel replaced and hopefully now in its proper position, I had to once again set up the timing. By now I\u2019m getting quite good at this. Instead I photographed the bits that were specific to the days\u2019s work <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pictured below was a bit of lower engine detail I\u2019d missed before. There they are, directly below, and facing the same way. And all was well! And where before she\u2019d struggled as you increased revs, she was now sounding consistently healthy across the whole range.
