So sayeth the pundits, of this match. And i\u2019sooth, it\u2019s all true. \u2018Twas absolutely fab!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump opened up a blistering and dominant 12-5 lead, only to have Williams, \u2018the Welsh potting machine\u2019, come roaring back at him. Some sublime snooker from both of them took us to the brink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 16-15 in Williams\u2019 favour, the humbly eccentric former boxer looked poised to deliver one of the greatest sporting comebacks ever. But Trump dug in, or went to the well as they say, and took it to 16-16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8582\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137-1536x864.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/www.sebpalmer.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/img_7137.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A standing ovation prior to frame 33.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The decider was a terrific frame, by far the longest of the match, clocking in at about 45-50 minutes. Both players had chances. And in the end there was a long safety duel, as Williams tried to beat the \u2018astronomical odds\u2019; he needed three or four snookers (and he laid a good few more than that).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in the end, Trump triumphed by potting the blue. What an epically exhausting but exhilarating match.
