These go back to 2014! Nine years ago.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

When I found these two art works recently, whilst putting yet more stuff into our attic, I brought them down, to have a fresh look at \u2018em. And I\u2019m pleased with how they look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pencil drawing was my first look at reproducing Dirck van Baburen\u2019s The Procuress<\/em>. I actually chose to leave the Procuress herself out of the picture, which also changed the overall format of the piece (from off square to a portrait type rectangle). Instead we have just the young dandy and his lute-plucking lady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A terrific book! And the source of this project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I found van Baburen\u2019s The Procuress<\/em> in this rather lovely book. It\u2019s an old\u2019un, but a good\u2019un! My mum had a copy back when\u2019s he did her degree. I think I\u2019ve posted about this book here before? But I\u2019ve not found that post, so can\u2019t link to it yet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here they are individually, for a bit of a closer look. The pencil drawing is finished. But the oil stalled before completion. So I need to finish that off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two pieces are both for sale, should anyone want either. The pencil drawing for \u00a389, and the oil painting for \u00a3239. That\u2019s unframed. I can frame them as well, if required. Or a buyer could do it themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m planning to do more in this line, as I enjoy it, and it teaches me a lot. I have a few favourite paintings I\u2019ve long wanted to reproduce, such as Vermeer\u2019s Woman Holding Balance<\/em>, and Caravaggio\u2019s very theatrical St Paul<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first three pics of my efforts, further up this post, were taken outside in the sunshine. These last were shot indoors.
